Relaxing Sedation Dentistry in Baton Rouge, LA
Dental anxiety is incredibly common among kids and adults alike. Even if patients normally feel totally comfortable in the dental chair, more complex procedures can feel less stressful and more relaxed with dental sedation. Whatever the case may be, our team at Jones Creek Family Dentistry would be happy to discuss our dental sedation options with you! Just give us a call or send us a message through our contact form, and we will be in touch with you shortly.
Contact UsNitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a sweet-smelling gas that puts patients into a happy, relaxed state. The effects begin within a few minutes of the gas being administered, and wear off a few minutes after the nose mask is removed and the patient breathes normal oxygen for a couple of minutes. This form of sedation is ideal for mild dental anxiety and minor procedures for this reason, and patients are typically allowed to drive themselves home after receiving nitrous oxide sedation.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation requires the patient to take a prescription medication prior to their appointment to enter a sleepy, dream-like state before their procedure begins. Patients can become so relaxed that they fall asleep during their appointment, but they can be awoken and are alert enough to respond to simple questions during treatment. This form of sedation takes longer to wear off, and patients must have a friend or relative drive them home afterward, so it is frequently used for more advanced dental services.
Local Anesthetic & DentalVibe
Whether you need a cavity filled or a tooth extracted, you won’t have to worry about your procedure being painful. Before any work is done, we inject a local anesthetic into the gums to completely numb the affected area. At the same time, we use a small device that applies light vibrations to the gums to prevent the patient from feeling the pinching sensation of the needle. This is especially helpful for patients who have dental anxiety or a fear of needles. When we say our treatments are completely painless, we really mean it!
Our dental sedation treatments are safe and effective, and we always take a patient’s current health and medical history into account before recommending sedation. Get in touch with our team to see how sedation can help you have more pleasant dental experiences!
